The Role of a Veterinary Practice Manager

The Veterinary Practice Manager is the operational backbone of the hospital. This leadership position oversees daily hospital operations, staff management, financial performance, workflow optimization, client service standards, protocol implementation, and culture development.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee Daily Operations

  • Ensure smooth hospital workflow
  • Manage scheduling and staffing efficiency
  • Monitor operational KPIs
  • Improve client service systems
  • Maintain compliance standards

Financial Oversight & Budget Management

  • Budget development and oversight
  • Expense monitoring
  • Revenue tracking
  • Payroll management
  • Performance reporting
  • Identifying growth opportunities

Qualifications

  • Veterinary clinic or animal hospital experience
  • Supervisory or management experience
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Financial literacy and budgeting familiarity
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to make confident, timely decisions

Highly Preferred: Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) credential

Lead & Develop the Team

  • Supervise and support veterinary technicians and support staff
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively
  • Conduct performance evaluations
  • Address conflict and maintain morale
  • Build a collaborative, accountable culture

Implement & Maintain Protocols

  • Develop and refine hospital SOPs
  • Ensure consistency in medical and operational standards
